Electronic Records, Informatics Director Appointed

Jacksonville, FL, March 4, 2008 - St. Vincent's HealthCare has appointed Donna Kelly Gwin, MSN, RN, Director of Electronic Medical Records and Clinical Informatics for St. Luke’s Hospital when St. Vincent’s HealthCare assumes operations of the hospital April 12.

In her new role, Gwin will lead and administer the electronic medical record system and clinical informatics function for St. Luke’s Hospital. This entails: insuring compliance with all regulatory and accreditation agency requirements and hospital policies; ensuring accurate, timely, consistent and comprehensive clinical information is available for physicians; and serving as the clinical informatics expert between physician offices, St. Luke’s departments, internal and external customers and vendors.

That combined with her experience working with electronic medical records, as both a trainer and an end user, and her project management experience makes her ideally skilled for the position. Gwin most recently served as Nurse Education Specialist for Mayo Clinic at St. Luke's Hospital, a position she held since 1996. There she was responsible for evaluating and developing key educational materials and programs to support nursing and allied staff development in the area of medical record documentation.

Gwin earned her Bachelor of Science Nursing degree from the University of Miami and her Master of Science Nursing degree from Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, FL. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Florida. Her doctoral dissertation is on end of life care. Gwin is a founding board member of the International Transplant Nurse’s Association, a member of the Jacksonville Association of Nurses in Education, Transplant Recipients International Organization and the National Kidney Foundation of Florida.
